For about 20 minutes or so during the past hour, this forum seems to have been down. One of those online tools said that was so when I checked after being unable to return to the forum, when I had been on it just a few minutes previous to that.

Which begs the question, "what's our backup plan?" Will HTLAL be as amenable to a thread there for information on a temporary outage here at polydog, as this forum has been for it?

I occasionally have an issue myself. My host claims there are no problems. About all I can do is bug them again. Can you give me the exact time id was down for you? If it gets bad, I can change hosts, but of course I'd rather not go through that. FYI - I back everything up once a week.

Can confirm it was down briefly for me too today, but can't provide the time frame.

It was during the hour before I started this thread, so 9-10am EDT, and probably more like 9:20-9:50 EDT.

Yeah stuff is always going to happen, whether with your main host or name server (hopefully separate to avoid being held hostage over disputes). First time that I have noticed it.

Remember back in the day, i.e. mid 90s, when you could tell when school got out on the west coast? Worst of all those dirty brats kept logged in at home all day so they didn't have to fight the problem they helped cause.

I got an answer from support. They said it was an isolated incident, about 15 min long, and they will do their best not to let it happen again. At least they acknowledged it. If you guys notice any other downtimes, please log it on this thread. Of course, that might be hard if it's down..catch 22.

Site very slow right now. Must be another "isolated incident".

Site very slow right now. Must be another "isolated incident". Did not post this reply at first, having to hit button again (it acted as if in progress then stopped).

Guess there was a lag. (just got a 2 minute error warning trying to post this - guess this is normal to prevent multiple posts in short period)

Seems fine now. Maybe the server had indigestion. I wonder whose posts caused it.

Really tasty onions are caramelised and don't generally trigger indigestion (for me anyway). I think it was probably a big 'dog with mustard and ketchup.

Thanks for logging this. Seems about the same time of day. Must be high traffic time.

11:05am today -f*cked again -back at 11:20 when checked again

503 service unavailable - powered by Lightspeed Web Server
Down for everyone or just me - down for everyone

Edit: 12:05 and very slow again.

This is not a huge deal for me nor probably most regs, but for potential members it could be. And where it is a HUGE deal is with google bots - google rank dings BIG for slow servers as you likely already know.

Good point. Yeah, I've decided to switch to semi-dedicated. I'll stay with the same host, and see if this solves our problems. If not, I'll change hosts. I have a ticket out on this now, so hopefully it will be taken care of in the next few days.

Thanks! Hopefully that will take care of it or make it relatively infrequent. I guess a lot depends on whom you share a server with. I wonder if the host tries to balance that or restrict a site that hogs a lot of bandwith from being on a shared server.

This issue shouldn't exist with semi-dedicated. I will no longer be sharing - I'll have a defined partition.

Alright, after a somewhat frustrating experience trying to upgrade, I'm now looking for a new host. Thanks for your patience.

    I wouldn't necessarily be so patient if I thought I had a choice :).

Thanks for all your hard work including on this.

At 2:20pm PST the site was "not found" for me. However, Google seemed to be having trouble today too. Strange. Anyone else having problems?
