I got washed ashore the Hawaiian island of Oahu and decided to stay quite a bit longer... :)

I've only been there once, but I love Oahu. Well done.

It looks like you deleted the translation for episode 1 when you uploaded episode 2.

Edit: Oops... now I see. The file's episodes 1 and 2... I thought is was season 1 episode 2. Silly me!

You're welcome. I have done the first episode but it took me 4 hours. At that rate, it will take quite some time to do all 60 episodes. Perhaps a few people can pitch in and do 10 episodes each?

Anyway, here is the first (Russian) subtitle. It may or may not sync with your own videos, depending on your source. Even if it doesn't sync, you can adjust for offset and even video speed with open source programs like Jubler. If someone wants to do English subs, you need only open the .srt file in a text editor and change the Russian text for English text, keeping the timing information intact and re-saving as a .srt file.

I fixed about 10 mistakes from the original Word file, but I also encountered a few passages which I could tell were wrong but I was unable to fix them because I couldn't make out the dialogue (and my Russian is not good enough), so if someone has any corrections please let me know and the quality of the subs can continue to improve.

I once came across a program that made creating subtitle files much easier, but I lost my copy in a hard-drive crash and I can't remember the name.

What you did was give it the subtitles in a text file as separate lines, then you watch through and hit the space bar when you want the next line to appear. I'll see if I can Google it up....

I said that was all, but I just added the Russian transcript for Кухня в Париже (Kitchen in Paris) which is a 100 min movie. Enjoy!

Thank you so much Big dog and patineuse for the Кухня transcript! I've nearly watched all three seasons twice now.
The series was really fun to watch and with the help of the transcripts, I could follow what was happening.

If this might help someone, I created an interlinear text for each episode from the transcript. This gives you an idea of what is going on, even if the translations are not spot on. I created this text using LWT (learning with texts) and a little script I wrote to extract all the individual words from the transcript. This gave me a russian word list, which I then put in google translate. I imported the word/translation to LWT, and voilà, interlinear text! You can usually understand the translation, though at times its complete junk. Still much faster than looking up each word you don't know though. I couldn't be bothered to correctly translate each word.

What I did was watch the episode a first time while reading the interlinear text. I would pause often when I was too slow/didn't understand. At first, it took me nearly 50 minutes to watch an episode. By the third season, episodes usually took 30-35 minutes to watch.
I then proceeded to watch the episodes a second time, however, without pause (and without 100% comprehension).

Some stats about all three seasons:

The amount of lemmas is: 17354

The total word count is: 115960

I've uploaded the first 10 interlinear texts. Is it not possible to upload a .zip or .rar file?

What to watch next? Seems there are a few series to watch, however, there are no transcripts or subtitles available (Интерны, воронины). Suggestions?
Once more, thank you so much for the transcripts!

Hi pat tou - thanks very much for these texts. zip has always been supported, and I just added rar, although I've never used either one. If you can't get zip to work, then I guess you'll have to combine files.

I've though about doing Интерны, but it just has so many episodes. I like the idea of doing the entire series. I watched over 100 episodes of воронины before I got tired of it. Most of my teachers warn me against using that show, saying it's not very Russian. I'm considering светофор, which appears to only have 80 episodes. I looks pretty good, but I've only seen the first episode. What do you think?

I just tried to upload all the interlinear texts in two .zip files. The files are too large, at 5.5 Mb each. Whats the max file size to upload?

You have my vote for Интерны! I watched the first 3 episodes, seems like a rather nice series.
That settles it for ворогины, I won't watch it for now.
I've also just watched the first episode of светофор, not sure about it. If the humor is centered around men lying to their jealous girlfriends/wives, i'll loose interest rather quickly. Hopefully things pick up in the next episodes.

    I PM'd you.

Yeah, I tend to agree about светофор, plus I found out it's based on a non-Russian (Israeli) show. Интерны is without a doubt the most popular, but there are so many episodes. I might wait to see if people want to donate to have it transcribed. Or maybe they can just donate scripts one episode at a time.

I just added the english version of the 3rd episode. Questionable areas are shaded green; I'll ask my tutor and get them confirmed or fixed. Also, I've improved the first 2 english texts; I think they are finished now. I'm going to continue adding episodes slowly, and will try to keep my latest version in the first post. So I won't be announcing any addition of episodes anymore - they'll just appear in the first post, your clue being a new name for the file.

You might want to check out Универ. It's funny, and appears to be based mostly on sex. The down side is that there's a laugh track…I got used to living without one with Кухня.
