Just started watching Универ - новоя обшага. I like it so far, so I think i'll work my way through it. Thanks for the tip.
I'm streaming it from Rutube. http://rutube.ru/metainfo/tv/285/#!/season1

Thanks for the link - I'd been watching it through VK. I noticed there is Универ & Универ - новоя обшага. I feel I should watch the first one first, although I've already seen a couple of Универ - новоя обшага.

I don't have a VK account so I can't see the link you had provided. Not sure, but I think Универ (~2008) is a little different, not the same actors, different storyline...Hard to tell since I haven't been able to find it online. I only found Универ - новоя обшага (~2011) and I think there is a new one (~2014).

I'm really missing having transcripts. Boy were we spoiled with Кухня! Much harder to follow, at times it's all blabalbala for me.

You should really get a VK account if you're studying Russian. Tons of free resources there.

Here's another one, sort of a predecessor to Кухня. Физрук I guess is where Дмитри's character came from. Don't know the whole history, but I watched the first show and it was really good, but much harder to understand. Maybe difficult due to bunch of dumb gangster vocab? Not sure.

I found a small error in English version. Do I post it here or via private message?

Another little problem, imho. In the episode 3.
    - Василий Михайлович! Это Баринов беспокоит по поводу прав...
Vassily Mikhailovich? This Barinov guy is worried about my driver’s license ...

Barinov is starting the call, so the translation should be something like:
"It's me, barinov, bothering/disturbing you about my driver's license"
It's the same structure as "это Баринов говорит" (it's barinov calling you about bla bla bla...) that russians use to identify themselves at the start of a phone call.
Sorry my english is not very good, but I think you get the idea.

Simply amazing, what a great resource and thank you for sharing! Would you happen to know anything about adding subtitles to videos? I am the leader of the Russian Club at my university and would like to add subtitles to Кухня episodes so that the club members can follow along without having to glance down at transcripts. So far we have been using your transcripts and they have been immensely helpful, but I feel that our members might follow along more easily, and therefore get more out of it, if the words are on the screen. If at all possible, I am trying to add both English and Russian subtitles to the screen at the same time...does anyone know how to do that? I am not very tech savvy, and would be willing to pay someone to do it, as I realize a great deal of time goes into synching the subtitles with the audio (or so I've been told).

This thread being bumped has just reminded me that series 4 has now started. Any plans to get the transcripts done for this series too?

Hi Jason, and welcome to the forum! Somebody attached a subtitle file (srt) for the first lesson here. You can open it in a text editor to see what they look like. There are many free tools available to make text files into subtitle files, but even the best ones require a lot of time and grunt work to do the job. You can try the youtube automated version, but it was terrible last time I tried to use it. The technology makes sense, it just doesn't work correctly yet. Give it a few years…

I don't know about playing double srt files. I would guess there are players that will allow playing 2 at a time. Viki used to allow it, but doesn't now. I'm pretty sure VLC doesn't allow it. I suggest doing surfing, and please get back to us if you find something useful.
