My question is what is the delineation of these two forums. Is Product Reviews only for reviews of commercial products, or does it include reviews of sites like Deutsche Welle (which I plan to review). Or where would someone give a thorough review of LingQ, instead of merely posting a link and brief description?
My intention was for all the reviews to be done under "Product Reviews". I added "sites" to the description.
I think I see the logic in Big_Dog's madness here. Typically on forums it's considered bad form to write really long posts -- it's supposed to be discussion, not monologue. By having a "reviews" forum, he gives us the expectation that we're not in typical forum territory any more, and suddenly big, long, detailed posts are allowed (consider also language logs -- would you be happy seeing these long personal posts in a subforum that wasn't explicitly designated for them?)
Actually, I don't remember what I was thinking when I first answered the question. I really like reviews, and I wanted a separate forum for them. There is definitely some overlap, but that always seems to be the case in forums. So like you said, reviews tend to be long and detailed. Resources, on the other hand, were meant to be 2 things: 1) stuff created or hosted by polydog 2) brief descriptions with links Maybe I need to clarify this more in the description?
