A week ago, we took Chase in to the vet for a re-check of his leg, which was still hurting enough to make him tremble in between pain meds. Except that it wasn't his leg at all. We were shocked when the vet discovered a football-size tumour hanging on one of his kidneys. He went downhill fast over the next seven days. He had a few really good days, but in the end he stopped eating and drinking, and his weakness and suffering were just too much. We said good-bye late yesterday morning through an ocean of tears. Chase knew the word for cookie in four languages and the word for come in none. He thought that Skype language exchanges were the perfect time to ask to be let out. And in. And out. And in. He liked it better when I sang in Tagalog than when I sang in Spanish. He loved it when I put in my earbuds to listen to FSI or a podcast, because he knew that it was a time for a long walk. I miss my best friend. Sleep well, Chase. You're a good boy.
I'm so sorry to hear this Stelle. From what you've told us, he was a great dog. Rest in peace big guy.
Condolences Stella. I know my brother still gets upset thinking about losing his Lab a decade ago. I don't know if you have ever seen them, but there are a number of online sites that allow you to make free online memorial pages for deceased pets. Again sorry for your loss.
Thanks guys! It's been really hard on both of us - but especially on my husband. I swear that those two shared one soul. We were lucky to have him with us as long as we did. He was a great dog!
