For those of you who practice writing out the language - what do you find helps things sink in more? Typing it out on a computer of physically writing it out? Even though I am a part of the generation that has had technology from quite a young - I still find writing the most effective way - typing it out on my PC does nothing for me and was curious if it's the same for others.
I prefer writing by hand too, I think that the mouvement with your hand help to anchor in your mind. But I am very slow to tape cyrillic (because I didn't pratice) and it stop me to communicate in russian (email, chat, forum). In french, I tape very fast and in english too because the alphabet is the same ^^ but in russian I am slow to think and then I am slow to tape. So now I try to pratice to tape with the russian keyboard. As Big_Dog said : "There are advantages and disadvantages to both though."
I prefer to write things out by hand. In the early stages of learning, I really enjoy taking the time to write things out, forming the words (even if it's the Latin alphabet) and making sure those endings are right. It forces me to pay attention to the details. I suppose typing would do that too, but the mechanics of typing (especially Cyrillic, though I'm a lousy typist in general) can cause me to lose that kind of focus. Later on, I don't think it matters so much - my handwriting in German is as sloppy and illegible as it is in English -which I take as a sign of accomplishment.
