One of my favorite Stephen Chow movies is the first one I ever watched, The God of Cookery. Now I don't know a word of Cantonese (beyond mookem nam yeh), could someone give me the gist of what the attached song is saying ? Do you think it is a real song, or something specifically written for the movie ? (mp3 attached below)
I don't know, haha. I've read that fans of this movie in Hong Kong can't see how anyone could enjoy this movie without knowing Cantonese. Admittedly the English subtitles are horrible, and the outsider won't catch any of the double entendres and cultural references. Still, am hoping for a further clue into this movie's secrets. I love God of Cookery and can recommend it to anyone who enjoys absurdist humor.
I found the lyrics to the song (below). The title is basically "First Love" and the lyrics are everything you'd expect from that title. Drop them in CantoDict's parser and use the float over translations if you'd like some details: http://www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/scripts/parse_chinese.php?action=parse
