Hi guys, I am revising the Super Challenge rules, and they will be posted on HTLAL once the forum is back. You can already sign up through the Twitter bot @langchallenge.

For those who do not know the Super Challenge, it is a massive challenge of
    - watching 100 movies
    - reading a 100 books
    - in 20 months.

It starts on May 1st, and it also possible to go for a half challenge. :)

Hi, Cristina! Thanks for posting. Is there any website with instructions (like the one for 6wc bot)?
And the rules in the end are 1 "book" =100 pages or a different number? And a movie is a over 60 min?

I'm so excited this is still going on despite the forum trouble.

Hi, Cavesa! I'll post the full set of rules as soon as HTLAL is up and running properly again, but the short version is that 50 pages count as one book, and a full film ( approximately 90 minutes) or two 40 minutes' episodes of a series count as one film.

OBS: I'll post the rules for the Super Challenge here, but please do the actual registration over at HTLAL - it will hopefully be back up soon :)

I hereby officially open the registration for the SUPER CHALLENGE 2014-15!

The Super Challenge 2014-15 starts on the 1st of May 2014 and ends on 31st of December 2015, but you
    may register already now.

    The 2014-15 challenge entails:

    - 100 films (90 minutes each)
    - 100 books (50 pages each)
    - in 20 months

    - You can do half a Super Challenge which would entail 50 books, 50 films
    - Instead of one full Super Challenge in one language, you can also do two (or more) half Super Challenges,
and decide how you want to combine them.

    To register, you state:

    LANGUAGE:

    CHALLENGE: ( FULL, HALF)

    CURRENT LEVEL:

COMMENTS: Any comments you feel like adding as to your reasons for choice of language, type of
challenge or material or your expectations for the outcome.

ONCE YOU HAVE REGISTERED HERE, PLEASE ALSO REGISTER ON THE TWITTER BOT (Link will be
    provided later)

Those of you who will use your TAC logs, or who have created own logs for this particular challenge are
welcome to link to them as well.

OBS: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE THREAD FOR REGISTERING AND UPDATING YOUR
ACHIEVEMENTS AND FOR GIVING ENCOURAGEMENTS TO YOU FELLOW SUPER CHALLENGERS
    ONLY.

I will at some point make a new Super Challenge total reference thread. For discussions about the rules or
the interpretations of them, please go to the Super Challenge discussion thread.

    -----------
If you are a beginner, you can start with the films. And it counts even if you see it with subtitles in your own
language, or even if you see the film in your own language but with TL subtitles. If both subtitles and audio is
in a foreign language you have to choose which language you want to count. If you want both to count you
simply see it twice. The same goes for listening/reading.

If you start out with the 100 films this year, I am sure you will be able to do the 100 books next year.

If you just have 5 books and 5 films then your read them 20 times. Though my guess is that by the time you
have read/seen them 5 times, you WILL get other films or books.

So the exact rules would be the following:
    - Every film counts as long as they have at least voice or subtitles in the TL
    - If it lasts approximately 45 minutes (a show/series) it counts as half a film. If it lasts for more than three
hours it counts as two films. I think the bot counts 90 minutes for a film.
    - If you want to use podcasts or audiobooks, 1 hour and a half is the equivalence of 1 film.
    - Every book counts. And 50 pages is considered one book, which means that if you read a real book of 500
pages, you have already read 10 of your 100 books!
    - You can do fiction or any other material – a documentary on whales, or a book about gardening works just
    as well as a novel.
    - You can see the same films/read the same books again and again
    - With parallel books you count the pages in your TL – minimum 50 pages to make it count as a book.
    - A manga counts as 5 manga pages = 1 book page.
    - Poetry/librettos count as 1/3 of a page
    - A children's book with large letters, pictures and few words on every page you count 5 pages as one page.
If that seems unfair use your best judgment.

    - You can be at any level when the challenge starts.
    - The material covered for this challenge can be counted and done in parallel with both the 6WC and the
Tadoku challenge (so if you participate in all three you could at one point count the same book three times :)
    - If you want to join later than May1st 2014 you are welcome to do so.
    - If you do L-R it is up to you whether you want to count it as reading (in which case 50 pages would count as
one book) or if you want to count it as film, in which case 1 hour and a half would count as one film.

But the most important thing about this particular challenge, is that you do this for yourself, and any material
you cover which you would not have covered had you not participated in this challenge – means success.

So ladies, gentlemen and minors: Let the registration commence, and let not the best man win: Let as many
of us as possible win :)

I love that you have included the above. I loved doing the Super Challenge last time, but because of how things became so contentious after the last one, I've been planning to not do it this time and just "sort of" do it under the radar. And of course I made a public statement to that effect.
Now that it's actually approaching, I'm tempted to do it again...I'll probably decide last minute. I could just eat humble pie and join the challenge (but definitely NOT read any of the discussions).

So a 500 page book counts as 10 books in this challenge?

BAnna: Just do it for your own pleasure, and never mind the discussions. I literally grind my teeth sometimes, but since I cannot very well opt out of my own challenge, I just have to hang in there :)

Bjørn: Yes, that is correct :)

OK, I just signed up over at HTLAL in all three of the languages I'm working on. Ack! That's probably crazy, but actually Russian is the one I'm most worried about.

500 pages = 10 books in my strong languages seems easy-peasy, but it's impossible for me to imagine right now that I could read even 5 pages of a book in Russian. I just need to trust the process, that by working through the mountain of material, improvement will occur. It worked great last time with German. Thank you, my dear, for this idea and for championing it through all the discussions and conflicting opinions. If you can put up with all of it and keep a smile on your face, what am I doing complaining?

Good girl! I was where you are with Russian when I last started, and I could not manage it, but what I could manage still brought a huge improvement in my Russian. Go for it!

I posted this at HTLAL as well for participants in the Super Challenge, but just to let folks here know, in case you're looking for or willing to contribute to a list of good native content (films, books, etc) for learners, there is a section on the learn any language wikia for Super Challenge Recommendations (so far there are place holders for 29 languages, and some have content recommendations and others dont't). Instructions of how to add stuff is in the other post, but I could post here if anyone wishes.
